forever and a day

It's been a long time since I've posted anything.  So here goes.

Topsy Turvy Neighborhood

This is a pattern I've written at the request of friends.  It was so much fun to make!!  It started with the hand dyed piece of fabric in the background.  With trees on my brain, all I could see were wonderful roots coming in and thru that lovely dark swirl.   So, ok, trees, but what to put with them, and all of a sudden I saw a whole neighborhood, all connected with the roots of those trees, all living in harmony.  The larger houses would be towards the outside, and the smaller ones on the inside of the swirl. As I worked on this piece, I thought about how interconnected we are in our own communities, how much better it is when we know our neighbors, how lucky I am, and about the many people without a home.  It was fun to choose each fabric, looking for contrast against the background.  I then choose another hand dyed piece for each roof, so that there would be subtle differences between homes, but all generally the same color.  I then added two smaller borders so that I would have enough room for all the tree leaves and added all the trees.
The houses are all stitched down by hand using black perle cotton thread. It is then machine quilted.

If you are interested in purchasing a pattern please let me know!
Till next time.
